Home in the Cloud

Residential Design by Kanger Du

Designing a modern and innovative living space

Kanger Du, the renowned designer, has created a unique residential design called "Home in the Cloud." This interior design project, spanning 200 square meters, caters to a family of four with two children around 10 years old. The design reflects the clients' nomadic teaching methods and their desire for a space that fosters self-conscious learning and communication.

The key feature of this design is the seamless integration of public and study spaces. The study room, western kitchen, and teahouse have been transformed into learning areas for both parents and children, maximizing the utilization of space. By connecting these areas in an open and fluid manner, the designer has created an environment that enhances mutual understanding and emotional connection within the family.

What sets "Home in the Cloud" apart is its emphasis on simplicity and openness. By understanding the clients' lifestyle and the landscape advantages of the original building, the designer has created a space that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing. Customized storage systems and smart home technology have been incorporated to enhance the family's living experience.

The design features an open structure with ample natural lighting. The space is divided into three bedrooms with complete supporting functions, along with a centralized communal living area that includes a Chinese kitchen, a Western kitchen, a dining room, a tea room, and a living room. Each area is equipped with different storage facilities, providing over 90 cubic meters of storage space.

With the integration of modern home intelligent technology, "Home in the Cloud" offers a superior living experience. The entire house is equipped with an intelligent control system, allowing the owners to control lighting, air conditioning, floor heating, household appliances, and electric curtains through their mobile phones. The kitchen features a sliding door that can close automatically, and the window in front of the kitchen table uses an electric switch for added convenience.

"Home in the Cloud" was completed in January 2022 in Guanshanhu District, Guiyang, Guizhou, China. The design project was accomplished between October 2021 and January 2022. The images accompanying this article were captured by Alan Tan in Chongqing, 2022, and the intellectual property rights belong to A.DU Interior Design.

This exceptional design has been recognized with the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. The award acknowledges the creativity and resourcefulness of the design, which incorporates best practices in art, science, design, and technology. "Home in the Cloud" exemplifies strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life and making the world a better place.
